Daphne Shavonne Harris-Hitch

Daphne Shavonne Harris-Hitch was born July 14, 1963 to Gracye Harris-Bonet and Michael McKendrick in Chicago, IL.

Daphne was christened at age 1 at Holy Souls Catholic Church, Chicago, IL.  At the age of 53, she was baptized into Christ at the Central Church of Christ in Little Rock, AR, under Minister Leon Barnes and John Phillips, Jr.

She spent a part of her early years with her grandparents, Luther & Gracie Harris in Emmet, AR.

Daphne graduated from Parkview High School, Class of 1980 and attended classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  She later attended and graduated from Capitol City Business College in 1982.

Daphne was employed with the State of Arkansas for over 30 years and retired from ADEQ (Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality) in July 2017.   She was also employed with 21st Century Janitorial Service for several years as a supervisor.

Daphne was a devoted and loving daughter, sister and mom.  From a young age, she nurtured her siblings and so many of her nieces and nephews.  She grew up to be a strong, intelligent, hardworking, considerate, independent woman.  Her mom always said, “she is the most organized person I know! When I grow up, I want to be just like her!”  Daphne had a big heart and genuinely cared about others.  Throughout her life, her kindness and generosity served to connect and bring so many people together.

Daphne was preceded in death by her grandparents, Luther and Gracye Harris; three special cousins: Debbie Harris, Deshan Harris and K.C. Welch; aunt, Emma Alexander and uncle, Marvin Duncan.  She departed this life on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Little Rock.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Gracye Bonet of Emmet, AR; her father, Michael McKendrick of Chicago, IL; her son, Daylon C.S. Green of  Little Rock, AR; her stepson, DeVonte’ Green of Little Rock, AR; two brothers, Tarkio (Forshunda) Willingham of El Dorado, AR and Tiago Lewis of Little Rock, AR; four uncles, Luther of Emmet, AR, Charles (Bettye) of Chicago, IL, Glenn of Emmet, AR, and Jackie of Little Rock, AR; two aunts, Rose Mary of Emmet, AR and Mary Lou (Jay) of Hope, AR; three nieces, three nephews, four step-grandsons.  Daphne also leaves to cherish her memory a very special friend, Kevin Scott.

Visitation will be 4-6pm Friday, November 23, 2018 at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford, Little Rock, AR.  Funeral services will be held 2:30pm Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Paul Baptist Church.  Burial will be at Snell Cemetery in Emmet.  Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
