Hope School Board

The Hope School Board met Monday October 21sr for their regular monthly meeting. After the approval of the minutes and financial reports the board heard from Joan Crowder of HAPS on some approval of community service for partnerships with HAPS and Hope High students. These requests included for the animal shelter, Hope Haven,and the Chamber of Commerce. The board approved these community partner agreements.

The board heard from School Improvement Specialist Carla Narlesky on “45 day reports”. She noted the reports will, starting with this one, will focus on attendance, academics,and behavior. Narlesky noted science “personal development” will be held in the board room this week. Other focuses include teacher attendance and personal development days for teachers. Narlesky also said they want to have more improvements in reading. Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hart noted school attendance is emphasized for students as well and the School Based Health Clinic is in part in effort to improve student attendance.

Dr. Hart touched on “Red Ribbon Week” starts October 28th to emphasize drug abuse awareness. He also noted the district is hosting a district school board association meeting. Dr. Hart said current enrollment is 2,270, up about 50 from last year. He also noted a facility tour of Yerger is coming up.

The board approved a resolution accepting an offer from the Southwest Arkansas Education Coop to allow the district to use it in case the district loses a facility for any reason.

Dr. Hart noted the board will work on a Facilities Plan following the meeting. He also noted plans are to apply for state funds for replacement of the high school roof.

The board approved a resolution that states the district will partner with the Census for 2020 and help with efforts to get an accurate census.

The board looked at a transfer from Hope to Spring Hill. Dr. Hart recommended the transfer be approved due to compassionate circumstances as the student has a sibling attending Spring Hill and the board approved it.

Board member Jimmy Courtney lauded school personnel for a math night. The board wrapped up the meeting with personnel matters and the report to the public was held after the meeting.
